The Client

Westfield Corporation is an internally managed, vertically integrated, shopping center group undertaking ownership, development, design, construction, funds/asset management, property management, leasing and marketing activities and employing approximately 2,000 staff worldwide.

Westfield Corporation has interests in 40 shopping centers in the United States, and the United Kingdom, encompassing approximately 7,400 retail outlets and total assets under management of $29.3bn.

The Challenge

John F. Kennedy Airport in New York is twice the size of Madison Square Garden. The American Airlines Terminal 8 processes 1,600 people an hour. Developing a solution that made it easier for travellers to locate destinations easily was their goal. They wanted to create an experience for travellers that was innovative and efficient.

After deciding that digital signage be needed to improve wayfinding and better share information, Westfield selected 22Miles Digital Signage and Wayfinding for its digital signage software platform.

The Solution

In conjunction with OpenEye Global, Westfield worked with 22Miles to design and implement a total digital signage solution with the emphasis on; improving customer experience.

The final deployment consisted of three eye-catching custom design double-sided touch screen wayfinding kiosks with 43” commercial grade touch screen displays. The wayfinding kiosks design was inviting, multilingual and ADA compliant.

The Results

A better travelling experience. Since deployment, the wayfinding kiosks have totaled over one million interactions.

Using the built-in search function travelers can view flight information browse through retail shops, locate dinning options, and learn more about the Admirals Club, baggage claims, locate bathrooms, and view transportation information.

To enhance the travelling experience further a “Send to Mobile” option was added which can send turn-by-turn directions and information directly to your mobile device.

To improve gate wayfinding, a boarding pass barcode scanner was added. Once scanned a digital wayfinding route is automatically generated.
