“Don’t assume, ask questions.”
That’s one of the first things you’ll hear from Kevin Kwasneski, Product Delivery Specialist at 22Miles. With over 11 years of digital signage experience, Kevin has seen just about everything: smooth installs, stressful fixes, and even a few funny mishaps. His job? Making sure projects run as they should, content looks right on screens, systems are stable, and customers feel supported.
In this conversation, Kevin shared what makes digital signage projects succeed, what causes them to stall, and why a little patience and good communication go a long way.
Organization Matters More Than You Think
Digital signage projects often live or die by organization. According to Kevin, one of the biggest roadblocks is simple disorganization, whether in meetings, in project planning, or even in how licenses are applied.

The takeaway? Assign clear responsibilities, document everything, and ensure every detail, from hardware placement to licenses, is double-checked before rollout.
Communication Beats Assumptions
Another theme Kevin returned to again and again: communication. Too often, projects get bogged down in long email chains where details get lost.

For customers, that means asking questions, even the “basic” ones. Clarity upfront saves hours of rework later.
Patience, Not Shortcuts
In an industry where technology needs to “just work,” it’s easy to expect fixes to happen instantly. But as Kevin points out, not every issue can be solved with a patch cable or a quick setting change.

He describes it as the difference between a Band-Aid and stitches. A quick patch may get a screen back on, but a thorough solution prevents the issue from returning.
What Successful Projects Have in Common
So what separates the smooth installs from the chaotic ones? For Kevin, it comes down to three things:
- Defined roles: A clear point of contact for networking, content, and overall coordination.
- Organization: Properly labeled hardware, approved content, and a structured rollout plan.
- Open communication: Questions asked early, answers shared transparently, and a willingness to jump on a call when needed.
When those pieces are in place, projects move faster, smoother, and with far less stress.
Real-Life Lessons from the Field: Bridging the AV Knowledge Gap
One of the biggest challenges Kevin encounters isn’t faulty hardware; it’s the gap between what customers assume and what technology actually requires. Digital signage may seem straightforward on the surface, but it involves networking, licensing, and hardware setup that aren’t always obvious to end users.

Kevin also recalls preparing for a cruise ship installation only to learn last-minute that he couldn’t go because his rushed passport application was misprinted. Instead of printing SK for South Korea, they had accidentally printed KS for Kansas, a simple mix-up that would prevent him from getting through customs. A colleague had to step in, and it turned out to be a blessing: the project required deep server expertise that his teammate specialized in.

After more than a decade in digital signage, Kevin’s biggest lesson is that successful projects are built on people, not just technology. Clear organization, open communication, and realistic expectations prevent most of the headaches he sees.

For organizations planning digital signage deployments, Kevin’s advice is simple: plan carefully, ask questions, and work with a partner who can guide you through both the predictable steps and the unexpected surprises.
